LX3 snaps from Oslo

1/1000 sec - f/4.5 - 12.8mm - ISO 80

1/320 sec - f/5 - 12.8mm - ISO 80

I've been carrying my LX3 around today, and I have to say it's a joy to use every time:-) These shots are really crisp, with lovely tones. Due to the smallish sensor, you need to be really carefull about exposure: there isn't as much to work with in these files as raw files from APC-sized sensors.

Just gotta love fall! We were out in a canoe today, the colors were great:-)

Nikon D90: 1/250 sec - f/6.3 - 70mm - ISO 200

Nikon D90: 1/800 sec - f/7.1 - 70mm - ISO 200

Just got back from a weekend in the mountains, collecting back sheeps after the summer. We rounded up 3.200 sheep on Saturday, and separated them on Sunday. My father in law was missing 13 out of his 88, but he reckons they'll be found.

Evening mood

D90 & 18-70mm: f/11 - 62mm

Just spent a week in the Norwegian mountains, at Hardangervidda. Cought these flowers just as the sun set, lighting up the cloud. The light was awesome that evening:-)

Farhovdtjønni, Rauland - Norway

Nikon D90 & 18-70mm: f/14 - 18mm

Just starting to get used to my new camera. When I took this photo, the rain kept pouring down. Being scared of ruining my new camera, I actually walked around with an umbrella to protect it... This picture is taken at Rauland, just a few 100 metres from my parents' cabin. A beautiful place:-)

The old road

D90 & sigma 10-20mm:
f/11 - 14mm

This is taken close to our summer house on the small island of Hille, close to Mandal on the Norwegian south coast. The island was inhabitted by more than 200 fishers and farmers in the 19th century, but is today mainly home to tourists such as myself.

After 25.000+ shutter actuations on my D40, I got a D90! So far it seems like a huge leap forward for me. The image quality seems to be comparable, if you count out the increased resolution. But the major improvement lies in the controls and the handling, which is outstanding compared to D40:-)

Caught this the other day when I was riding my bicycle to work. These massive buildings just sort of hover in the middle of the forrest, love it!

Minolta rangefinder

LX3:
1/80 sec - f/2.8 - 60mm - 400 ISO

Just love how those old rangefinders were built! The operation on this is just wonderful, the focusing wheel is super-smooth and nicely dampened. I wish today's camera manucaturers would make cameras like this. Only with digital sensors...

Started a week-long photo challenge at akam.no, were I am to upload a photo a day, only using a normal prime. This photo is taken at Hellerudsletta outside Oslo. There is some sort of construction going on there, leaving a massige open sore in the landscape...

The city and the nature

1/6 sek - f/13 - 18mm

1/13 sec - f/10 - 27mm

I was out looking for cool buildings in the inner suburbs of Oslo today. Some of these massive complexes are really cool, some day I'm sure they will be apreciated for their architecture. Unforturately, we're having some heavy rain in Oslo these days, so walking around in tall grass made me completely soaked...

Marine Cemetary

Nikon D40 & 18-70mm:
1/400 sec - f/5 - 70mm - polarizer

The cemetary in Bonifacio was amazing. Every family had it's own small chapel, here illustrated with a myriad of small crosses. Even though the polarizer helped me darken the sky, I darkened it further in Lightroom 2 using the B&W conversion features. It brought along a little noise, but I kind of like it :-)

Eager photographer...

Panasonic LX3: 1/200 sec - f/2.8 - 5,9mm

My girlfriend brought her LX3 to Corsica, and documentet me photographing:-) Here I am taking a picture of a sea scape outside Calvi, Corsica. I tried making something of the light house and the pink sky, but it turned out bland... In case you are wondering: the little yellow thingy on top of my camera is a spirit level, invaluable when doing landscape photography...

Girolata, Corsica - June 2009

Nikon D40 & 18-70mm:
1/100 sec - f/5 - 40mm - polarizer

This is Girolata, the only village left on Corsica without a road connection. The only way to go there is by foot (1,5 hours) or by taking a boat. It's a really pretty place, with a sheltered bay with crisp blue water, a 1400th century castle and a small hamlet. We hiked in there and slept in a tent, great!

Lac de Nino, Corsica - June 2009

D40 & 55-200mm:
1/320 sec - f/10 - 55mm - ISO 200

This beautiful place is at about 1750 meters above sea level. Still, you have horses and cattle grazing there. With the snow-capped mountains in the background, the whole valley was breathtaking. It was kind of tough to get any memorable pictures out of it though, as the lighting was pretty harsh (at the middle of the day)...

Life is no picnic...

Corsican beach

Just came back from a couple of weeks in Corsica. What a beautiful place! I brought my small tripod along, so I managed to sneak out on a couple of evenings to shoot... All of them are done with my trusty old D40. It looks like it soon will be replaced by a D90, can't wait....

A meeting

Nikon D40 & 55-200mm VR:
1/500 sec - f/8 - 200mm - ISO 200

I kinda like this picture: it has bright and crisp primary colors, it has a nice reflection going, you can see some people in the reflection and the composition is nice and tight.

I really liked how the 55-200mm handled here: it's small and light, so I can carry it easily around. The zooming action is smooth and damped, so framing is easy. And it's pretty sharp once it's stopped down to f/8 (f/5.6 will also get rid of the vignetting, and will get you a decent sharp picture as well).

Nice light

Nikon D40 & 55-200mm VR:
1/200 sec - 160mm - f/5.3 - ISO 400

Came back from a weekend in the southern part of Norway. I brought my D40 and 55-200mm along everywhere. The 55-200mm is a great lens, but it needs a lot of light... Just set the camera to f/8, and it shines all the time. I love it when you get warm evening light, makes me want to take pictures of everything I see...

The Catacombs of Paris

Walking through the catacoms of Paris was really something... Knowing that the remains of 6,5 million people are lying around you was pretty creepy. Absolutely an experience:

Haute couture

There are some spectacular ads on display in Paris, providing a lot of photo opportunity. This guy passed me on the other side of the sidewalk, I just had to spin around and snap a photo of him and the catwalk models!

I visited Maison européenne de la photographie today. They had A LOT of Henry Cartier-Bresson-photos. I was really impressed, some of them were fantastic! Absolutely worth the 6,5 EUR in admission...

The Norwegian Woods...

I visited Rena yesterday. It's a small, sleepy village in the deep forrests of eastern Norway. I wandered around the place around 08:30 this morning, and was almost completely alone. This is a small park behind the local train station. You can spot the Rena church behind the trees.

LX3 does Andøya

I spent last week in the northern parts of Norway. My favorite place was definitely Andøya - what an amazing place! Fantastic mountains meet dramatic sea, and in the middle of this there are some flat plains and some semi-deserted (but still o so idyllic) fishing villages.

It really is a great place, check it out here
.

Panasonic LX3:
1/500 sec - f/3,2 - 24mm - ISO 80

This is a great example of a picture that I wouldn't have gotten if it wasn't for the LX3. I would never have brought along my D40 for a trip like this (work related), because it would get in the way all the time. My LX3 just fits in my coat pocket and can be taken out anytime I need it:-)

Easter in the Norwegian mountains

Some fantastic places in the Norwegian mountains. I spent this Easter in Rauland, and the light was amazing at times. This is from Silkedalen:

Notodden

Drove by Notodden last sunday. It's one of those old industrial towns that sprung up in Norway in the early 1900-s, based on hydroelectric power. Norsk Hydro was actually founded here in 1904. These days they're more famous for the blues festival they host every year...

Don't you just love it when you get low sun and fog? I came across this motif last weekend while driving to the mountains - loved it :-)

Cold outside, warm inside

Just came back from a weekend in this lovely little cabin in the Norwegian mountains, love that place :-) It was actually snowing almost all the time we were there, but just after the sun had set it stopped for a while. So I grabbed my tripod, took on my skis and headed outside...
